Roger 'Swede' Ahlstrom, 32, son of Guy Ahlstrom of this city was drowned late Sunday when he fell off the top of his 16 foot cabin cruiser while returning from Prairie du Chien. He, in company with the Elmer Bechtel and Emmet Johnson families, both of Waukon, drove to Harpers Ferry Sunday afternoon and boarded the Ahlstrom boat for a trip to Prairie du Chien.

While returning home Ahlstrom went on top of the cruiser and was not missed until the others went to look for him about 8:00 p.m.

Officials were called from Waukon and from Prairie du Chien and dragging operations were kept up until 11:30 p.m. Sunday night and resumed again [Monday] morning at 5:00 a.m. The body was found on the Wisconsin side of the main channel Monday afternoon about 3:00 p.m. and the coroner from Crawford County was called but no inquest was held.

The funeral services will be held this Wednesday p.m. at 2 at Martin Bros. conducted by Rev. L.D. Eaton of the Center Baptist and former pastor of Waukon. Burial will be made in Oakland Cemetery.

He was born and reared in Waukon and is a graduate of the Waukon high school and had been employed at Handys Super Service Station. Besides his father he is survived by two sisters, Mrs. John Theis of this city and Mrs. Kenneth Kittleson of Decorah. A brother Myron lives in San Jose, Calif. His mother preceded him in death on Jan. 24, 1958.
