Funeral Services Held For Mrs. Allen Hartley
Funeral services for Mrs. Allen Hartley, 65, rural New Albin, were held on Friday, Oct. 15, at 2:00 p.m. from Mt. Hope Presbyterian Church, rural New Albin. The Rev. C. Kent Wever, pastor of the chruch and the Rev. Calvin Willensen of Garner, Iowa, officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery. Mrs. Hartley died early Wednesday morning at St. Francis Hospital, La Crosse, where she was being cared for following an automobile accident several weeks ago.

Ella Thies was born on Portland Prairie, Houston County, Minnesota on August 23, 1906, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Thies. She grew to womanhood in that area.

On August 23, 1930, she was married at Eitzen, Minn. to Allen Hartley and they have since made their home on Mt. Hope farm. She was church organist for many years and was active in community and area events.

Mrs. Hartley is survived by her husband; two sons, Loren of New Hyde Park, Long Island, N. Y., and Donald, Caledonia, Minn.; two daughter, Mrs. Richard (Ramona) Hennings, Dubuque; and Mrs. Herbert (Charlotte) Gerdes, Caledonia, Minn.; 12 grandchildren; her aged mother; a brother, Elmer Thies, Caledonia; and two sisters, Mrs. Laura Schoh, Caledona [sic], and Mrs. Leonard (Ruby) Petersen, Madison, Wis.
Potter-Haugen Funeral Home of Caledonia was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Hartley of Dubuque spent a few days the latter part of the week at the home of her brother George Shefelbine and wife, and attended the Hartley funeral on Friday.

The Rev. and Mrs. Calvin Willemsen, former pastor at Lansing and Mt. Hope Presbyterian churches, were in attendance at the funeral services of Mrs. Allen Hartley on Friday at Mt. Hope. The former is now located at Garner, Iowa, where he is a pastor of the Presbyterian Church.

Mr. and Mrs. Loren Hartley and two children of Long Island, N. Y., are remaining this week with relatives in the northern part of the county, having been called home because of the death of his mother, Mrs. Allen Hartley.

Two Allamakee county couples are hospitalized at the Boone County Hospital, Harrison, Arkansas, following a one car accident which occurred near there on Friday. Details as to the cause are not available. They are Mr. and Mrs. Allen Hartley, rural New Albin, and Mr. and Mrs. Irwin Rober, rural Dorchester.

Mr. Hartley received fractured ribs, Mrs. Hartley a fractured hip on which surgery has been performed. Mr. Rober has fractured ribs and an injured knee and his wife has both legs broken and facial injury which will require surgery.

The couples were spending a vacation in the Ozark country. The car, driven by Mr. Hartley, was a total loss.
