Seneca A. Tupper, Esq., died at his residence in Winneshiek county, last week, aged 74 years. In North-Eastern Iowa, at an early period, he occupied a position and wielded an influence second to but few.

In 1854-5 he was a resident of Lansing, subsequently removing to Decorah. The Republican, of that place, adds:

For a dozen years thereafter - until the infirmity of deafness came upon him - he was active in business as a practicing lawyer, and prominent in politics. He was an ardent Democrat, and when we formed his acquaintance he was the embodiment of that party in this county. Few men in Iowa were better posted in political history, and few could more readily convey their thoughts to an audience. It is noteworthy that in the latter respect he more than equaled many of the best representatives of his party wo visited Decorah in their stumping tours.

His home was the center of the social life of the community, in the days when, on account of fewer numbers, there seemed to be more freedom and warmth to the social life of the whole body-public.

~Lansing Mirror, Friday, April 19; pg 3

Note: He is buried in the Phelps cemetery, Decorah.
