Matthew Bottsford, aged 24 years and 20 days, died on the evening of Thursday, Feb. 3d, at the residence of his mother in Lansing.

The death was very sudden, his sickness only dating from the Sunday previous. The immediate cause of death was an inflammation of the brain, produced by congestion.

The deceased was one of a very large family who were among the first settlers of Lansing, and leaves quite a large circle of relatives and friends to mourn his unexpected departure.

The affliction falls most severely upon the aged and widowed mother, who has the sympathy of the entire community in this great sorrow. The words of the dying one spoken in the last moments of his consciousness, however, were such as to bless their mourning with hope.

The funeral services were held at the Methodist Church, on Saturday last, and were largely attended.

The sadness of the above event was increased by the death of the husband of a sister of the deceased, Mr. D.W. Nice, at Boscobel, Wis., Jan. 30, in the 33d year of his age. His death was not unexpected, as he had been long lingering on the verge of the grave.
