Norma L. Fiet

Norma L. Fiet, 79, of Waukon, died Thursday, March 18, 2004, at the Good Samaritan Center in Waukon, Iowa. Funeral services were Monday, March 22 at Bethlehem Presbyterian Church in rural Postville with Rev. Richard Eick officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Martin Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Norma Leona Kosbau was born May 10, 1924, in Jefferson Township, rural Waukon, the daughter of George and Agnes (Geving) Kosbau. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion United Church of Christ. She attended elementary school in Jefferson Township and graduated from Waukon High School in 1941. Norma also attended Waukon Junior College where she received her teaching certificate. She taught in several rural schools in Allamakee County.

On June 11, 1946, she married Robert Richard Fiet at Zion United Church of Christ. Norma and Robert farmed for 30 years in Ludlow Township.

In 1971 Norma received a B. A degree in teaching from Upper Iowa University. Norma taught fifth grade at East Elementary School until retiring in 1986.

She was a member of Bethlehem Presbyterian Church and its ladies circles. Norma was also a member of the Retired Teachers Association of Allamakee Schools and the VFW Auxiliary. She was a volunteer at the Good Samaritan Center for many years, where she read stories and lead devotions.

Norma enjoyed writing letters to her family and spending time with them. She also enjoyed quilting, gardening, walking, and baking, especially home made bread.

Survivors include a son, Loren (Cindy) Fiet of Waukon; three daughters, Patricia (Harold) Jacobson of New Milford, Ct., Julia (Terry) Mohs of Postville, and Gwendolyn (Dennis) Davies of Sioux Falls, S.D.; nine grandchildren; four great-granddaughters; and a sister, Betty Pfeifer of Buffalo, Minn.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Robert, who died in 1997; and an infant son, Reginald.

Casketbearers were Denise Blake, Cathie Fiet, Amy Jeglum, Brian and Christopher Jacobson, Heidi Stoddard, and Holly, Branden, and Heather Mohs.
