DIED - At her home in Grand Meadow township, Clayton county, March 27th, 1885, Mrs. Anna McLelland, aged 82 years.

Mrs. Anna McLelland, deceased, was born in New York, A.D. [unable to read date]. She was married to R.J. McLelland at her father's residence in Victor, [illegible] county, November 3rd, 1822. They moved to [illegible], Niagera county, a place 6 miles east of Lockport, the country being all [illegible] and heavily timbered, where they lived 33 years, and had 6 children, all of whom are now dead.

They moved to Grand Meadow township, Clayton county, Iowa, June 6th, 1856 and have lived on the N.E. [illegible] of section 16, up to the present time.

Mrs. Anna McLelland has been, all her married life, a sincere, professed Christian, doing all she could to make her family happy, and doing good to her neighbors. She was all her life a most industrious worker, until her strength was all gone and she was laid down, not able to speak a word, lay all night entirely still, and was found in bed in the morning dead.

The funeral was held from the M.C. church last Sunday afternoon, and the remains were interred in the Postville cemetery.

Notes:
- the microfilm reproduction of this obit was poor, making it very difficult to transcribe; errors are very possible, especially re: numbers
- If there was a gravestone marking the McLelland lot in the Postville cemetery, it is no longer extant. Her husband R.J. & son W.H.S. 'Seward' McLelland are also buried in the lot, possibly with other family members.
