James Waters, 77, died Wednesday, Sept. 30, 1998 at his home in Houston, Mn.
James was born July 23, 1921 in Allamakee County to John and Wilhelmina (Welper) Waters.
Nov. 8, 1948 he married Anna Mae Burroughs in Hanover. Together they farmed in Allamakee County and in 1955 moved to Houston County where they continued to farm.
James also worked on Mackinaw Island, Mi, where he drove horses on tour wagons and worked in the barns caring for the horses as well as harnessing and hitching them.
James was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Houston.
James is served by his wife; one son, John and wife Shelby Waters of Viroqua, Wi; four daughters and their husbands, Marilyn and Darrell Rose, and Lorna and Paul Augedahl of Caledonia, Mn, Mary and Tim Serres of Brownsville, Mn, and Barbara and Collin Johnson of Rochester, Mn; twelve grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and one sister, Margaret Pladsen of Waukon.
He was preceded in death by one sister.
Funeral services were held 11 am Saturday, Oct. 3 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Houston, Mn, with the Reverend William Kulas officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery, with Hoff Funeral Homes-Houston Chapels in charge of arrangements.
Casket bearers were John and James Pladsen, Adam and Caleb Augedahl, and James and Eric Waters.
Honorary casket bearers were John T. Cassidy, Floyd Waters, Hillary Kasten, John Waters, Jr., Duane Covey, Kenneth Esch, Duane Von Arx, Harold Van Gundy, and Harold Nader.
