Neil C. Sanderman, 87, of Waukon, IA, died Tuesday, August 18, 2015, in Cedar Falls, IA. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 22nd, at 11:00 AM at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon, with Rev. Keith Selberg officiating. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery, Waukon. Friends may call from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM Friday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.

Neil Carl Sanderman was born on July 10, 1928. His parents were Edward and Minnie (Osterholz) Sanderman. He attended Helming Country School for eight years and graduated from Waukon High School in 1946. He married Bonnie Grotegut on June 10, 1951.

From August 1951 to August 1953, he served in the US Army, spending 18 months in Korea as a Staff Sergeant for the Combat Engineers.

Neil returned home to Waukon and with Bonnie, farmed crops and live-stock. Together they raised three children. He had learned to fly after high school and later became a flight instructor and a charter pilot for the Allamakee Flying Club. Neil enjoyed taking his family and friends on flying trips. He also enjoyed boating and waterskiing, picnicking on the Mississippi, riding his motorcycle and square dancing.

After retiring, he and Bonnie spent winters in Mesa, Arizona, frequently traveling around the country in their AirStream. They enjoyed time with their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Neil was confirmed at Zion United Church of Christ in Waukon, and remained a lifetime member, serving as an Elder and Trustee.

Neil is survived by his wife of 64 years, Bonnie Sanderman, his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

His children and their spouses are Lu Ann Stoakes and husband Steve Stoakes, Robert Sanderman and wife Barbara Sanderman, Judy Johnson and husband Scott Johnson.

His grandchildren are Lucas Stoakes and Misty Slater, Charlie Stoakes, Alicia Sanderman and husband Gustavo Gutierrez, Janine Sanderman, Bryce Wandling, Britney Wandling and Paige Wandling.

His great grandchildren are Peyton Scholl, Rebekkah Stoakes and Max Stoakes.

Honorary casketbearers are Richard Nelson, Gene Johnson, Bryce Wandling, and Charlie Stoakes.

Casketbearers are Wayne Fish, Scott Johnson, Eugene and Jeff Sanderman, and Steve and Lucas Stoakes.
