Martin Funeral Home, Waukon Iowa - Obituary for Sarah Lois Kiesau

Sarah L. Kiesau, 92, of Waukon, died Monday, October 25, 1999 at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon, IA following a brief illness. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, October 28 at 11:00 am at Zion United Church of Christ in Waukon with Rev. Richard Eick officiating. Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery, Waukon, IA. Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 pm Wednesday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.

Sarah Lois Kiesau was born February 25, 1907 in Forest City, IA, the daughter of Rev. Ferdinand Gottlieb and Lydia (Bauercamper) Lemme. She grew up in the Forest City area where she attended rural schools, before moving to the Waukon area in 1921 where she graduated from Waukon High School in 1926.

On April 26, 1928 she married Leo Kiesau at Salem United Church of Christ Parsonage, Ludlow. Before marriage she was a rural schoolteacher at Fan & Ludlow #2, 3, and 7 schools. After marriage she worked at the Lansing Factory, she was a clerk for 22 years at Schultz Brothers Variety; a cook at St. Patrick's Catholic School; Matron of Waukon Public Rest Room from 1973 to 1979; coordinator of Senior Citizens Transportation for NEICAC from 1979 to 1985. She was a member of Zion United Church of Christ in Waukon. As a member of Zion she belonged to Miriam, Rachel, and Martha circles. Sarah was also active with the Womens Civic Club, and Adopt a Grandparent program at school. She enjoyed children, family gatherings, visiting with people, crocheting, knitting, flower gardening. She also made ornaments for the Christmas tree at Zion and was active as a volunteer for ALANON.

Sarah is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 7 brothers Ben, Dave, Paul, Carl, Dan, Amos, and Ted Lemme, 6 sisters Esther Charlson, Martha DeLap, Ruth Worster, Paula Lemme, Alma McFarland and Clara Ryan.

Survivors include many nieces and nephews. Casketbearers were Steve, Donn, Bob, and Dustin Hager, Charles Bahr, and Ernest Fruechte.
