Splendid Woman Called

Saturday morning about 7 o'clock came the sad news of the passing of this good Christian wife and mother, who was being treated for a nervous breakdown, from which she had fully recovered, but after contracting influenza last May, an incurable disease set in, and notwithstanding, all that medical skill and care could do she was called home. Her husband and sister were with her when the end came.

Anna Batteen Lenz was born at New Albin, Iowa, Dec. 30, 1893. As a girl she attended the public schools of Lansing, graduating from High School, after which she followed the vocation of teaching. She taught a few years in the rural districts and later in the Lansing public school.

She was united in marriage with Harry Lenz on June 26th, 1917, and soon thereafter united with the Lansing Ridge M. E. church under the pastorate of Rev. B. A. Wendlandt. Anna possessed a beautiful character and was loved and endeared by all who knew here. Of her it can be truly said, "Her sun has set while it was yet day."

The deceased leaves to mourn her loss a kind husband, whose happy home of a few short years was broken, two children, Charlene and John, three sisters, Mrs. Harry Thompson, Mrs. Henry Rettinger and Mrs. Fed (sp) Schendel, two brothers, Ferdinand and Charley, and two half brothers, Gustave and August Batteen. Funeral services were held at the home of her sister, Mrs. H. Rettinger, Monday afternoon, Rev. A. C. Prust officiating.

Out of town relatives who attended the funeral were: Mrs. George Bakewell and children, Maywood, Ill.; Theo. Lenz and family, Colby Wis.; Mrs. C. L. Yahanke, Garden City, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Wm. P. Parks and daughter, Gillette, Wy.; Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Batteen and daughter, Mrs. Fred Schendel, Sparta, Wis.
