DROWNED - Last Thursday night a Norwegian named Jules Johnson fell off from a barge lying alongside of the Diamond Jo pier and was drowned. He was watching the barge and the supposition is that he fell asleep and rolled off into the river.

The body was recovered Sunday about a mile below Lafayette, in a pile of drift wood. He was about 40 years of age, and leaves a family.

-----------

NOT JOHNSON- the name of the Norwegian drowned from off the barge, mention of which we made last week, was not Johnson, but Jule Mulstad.

Notes: There is a burial for Jules Johnson in Oak Hill cemetery, with the dates 1833-6/19/1873 but no burial for a Jule Mulstad is found in the cemetery records. Very possibly the burial record came from the original newspaper report. Interested researchers should verify to their own satisfaction.
