Walter J. “Jack” Collins, well-known former Blooming Prairie businessman, passed away at 9:45 p.m., Sunday, September 15, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester. Mr. Collins, who resided in Aurora township, Rt. 2, Blooming Prairie, was 60 years, 2 months, and 6 days of age at the time of his death.

Walter John Collins, son of John and Anna Collins, was born June 9, 1908, at New Albin, Iowa. On November 3, 1931, he was united in marriage to Lillian Applen at Spring Valley, Minn.

“Jack” as to was known to his wide circle of friends operated a produce business in Blooming Prairie for 7 years and operated a similar business in Austin for 18 years. After leaving the produce business he farmed for a number of years before retiring due to ill health.

Mr. Collins was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Litomysl.

Surviving are his wife, Lillian; one son, Thomas (Virginia) Collins of Jackson, Minn.; one daughter, Mrs. Joseph (Rose Mary) LeTendre of Slayton, Minn.; three grandchildren; three brothers, Leo of Owatonna, Cletus of Spring Valley, and Michael of Minneapolis.

Funeral rites will be held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, in St. Columbanus Catholic Church, Blooming Prairie, with the Father Geo. Foffel officiating and the Blooming Prairie Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Interment will be in St. Columbanus Catholic Cemetery, Blooming Prairie. Casketbearers will be Donald Morrison, Frank Betlach, George Carroll, Charles Ressler, Wm. Noble, and Melvin Colenberg.
