When the news spread from mouth to mouth about eight o'clock Thursday evening that Mrs. Edward Eggleston had just died, it was hardly to be believed and a great shock to those who knew her.

She had given birth to a child the Sunday previous and was reported getting along splendidly, telling those at her bedside Thursday afternoon that she felt well enough to get up. Some mysterious change took place about six o'clock and within an hour and a half her spirit had taken its flight.

The deceased was the youngest child of Mr. and Mrs. Mat Kelly, of this city, and was born and grew to young womanhood in Jefferson township. She was aged 21 years and 7 months.

September 5, 1999, she was married to Edward Eggleston. They had been playmates and companions from childhood and their short married life was a very happy one. The grief of the young husband can better be imagined than described.

Lovely of face and disposition she was the pet of the family, and the blow falls with equal force on the parents, sisters and brothers, and all feel for them in their sad affliction. The funeral took place from St. Patrick's church Saturday forenoon, burial at Mount Olivet.
