Funeral services for Wayne Martie were held Saturday, February 21, 2004, at 10:30 A. M. in the Community Presbyterian Church at Postville. The Reverend Gary Catterson officiated. Casket Bearers were: Kevin Dundee, Shane Kohrs, Owen Nuehring, Omar Nuehring, Marlin Pausch, Gene Stockman, Ronald Upton, Marty Bissell, and Honorary Casket Bearers were: Melissa Martie, Cory Martie, Stephanie Martie, Derek Martie, Jessica Hubert, Lee Dundee, Eric Sorum, Leo O'Hara, Frankie Harry, Harold Peterson, Loren Eberling. The Schutte Funeral and Cremation Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery, next to his parents.

Wayne Roger Martie was born November 12, 1937, at Clermont, Iowa, to Walter William Martie and Clara Viola (nee Nelson) Martie. He passed away Tuesday, February 17, 2004 at the home of his son, Randy, north of Postville, Iowa. He had reached the age of 66 years, 3 months, and 5 days.

He was baptized in the West Clermont Lutheran Church and confirmed in the Community Presbyterian Church at Postville. Wayne attended the rural school near his home and also the Postville High School.

On October 3, 1959 Wayne was married to Marilyn Jean Nuehring in the Little Brown Church at Nashua, Iowa. To this union three children were born.

Wayne grew up on the family farm northwest of Postville, where he helped his mother following the death of his father. He also worked at the Hanson and Matson Egg Producers and Hall Roberts' Son in Postville. Wayne enjoyed farming and spent many hours building, landscaping and fishing on his two acre pond. He also liked dining out, playing cards, and working on remodeling projects. He was admired by his children's friends and enjoyed making people laugh, even at the later stages of his illness.

He is preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Charldine Jones and a special friend, Mark Hanson. Survivors include his wife, Marilyn, his children, Randy Wayne (Colleen) Martie, Postville, Larry Lee (Mona) Martie, Brownsville, WI, and LaVonne Kay Martie and special friend, Eric Sorum, Postville; five grandchildren, Stephanie Martie, Derek Martie, Melissa Martie, Cory Martie, Jessica (Jerome) Hubert, and a niece, Shelva Kohrs.
