Mrs. LELAND (Frances K. Cooper) RICHIE
Frances K. Richie, age 96, of Lansing, Iowa, died Wednesday morning, January 14, 2004, at Thornton Manor Nursing Home in Lansing. Funeral services were held Saturday, January 17, at the United Methodist Church in Lansing with Rev. Keith Putney officiating. Burial was in the Oak Hill Cemetery. Thornburg Hanson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Frances was born in Lansing February 22, 1907, to Stewart and Katie (Horne) Cooper. She married Leland Richie October 8, 1924. Frances helped her husband operate "Dutch's Place", a long-time Lansing cafe. She was a charter member of the Beck-Glenn-Strong Post #50 of the American Legion Auxiliary. She was also a member of Wan-tan-yee, a women's civic organization that was started in the 1960s. Frances was also a life-long member of the United Methodist Church.
Frances is survived by one daughter, Ruth Belich of Lansing; a daughter-in-law, Juanita Richie of Somerset, Ky.; a brother, Wilson H. Cooper of Lansing; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Leland W. Richie on June 16, 1986; a son, Leland G. Richie (who was of Whittley City, Ky.) on May 14, 2001; an infant brother; and seven step-brothers.
Casketbearers were Bob Leppert, Ron Hogan, George Lee, John Rethwish, Bob Teff, and Dick Roeder.
