MILTON ROBERT ORVILLE SCHIERHOLZ
Funeral services for Milton Schierholz were held Thursday, January 8, 2004, at 10:30 A. M. in St. Paul Lutheran Church at Postville, Iowa. The Reverend James Allison officiated. Special music was provided by Joann Martins, organist and Kim Schutte, soloist. Casket Bearers were: Stanley Schierholz, David Schierholz, Paul Schierholz, Peter Keune. The Schutte Funeral and Cremation Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery.
Milton Robert Orville Schierholz was born June 16, 1915, at Monona, Iowa to Elzer William Schierholz and Amanda Laura Wirkler Schierholz. He died Sunday, January 4, 2004, in Palmer Lutheran Health Center at West Union, Iowa, at the age of 88 years, 6 months, and 18 days. He was baptized July 4, 1916 by Pastor Wessenberger and confirmed August 11, 1929 by Pastor E. T. Finck. Milton attended the Luana School.
On September 17, 1936 Milton was married to Selma Elena Nelson at the parsonage of the West Clermont Lutheran Church in Clermont. To this union three sons and a daughter were born. The family farmed for over 30 years and then moved to Postville in 1968. Milton sold Vigortone Feeds for several years. He and Selma enjoyed square dancing and traveling.
Surviving are his children, Stanley (Joann) Schierholz, Warsaw, MO, David (Linda) Schierholz, Postville, Paul (Linda) Schierholz, Colorado Springs, CO, and Carol (Peter) Keune, Gunder, IA. Also surviving are 17 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren. The grandchildren are: Mechel (Rick) Mitts, Larnel (David) Lantsberger, Mark (Roni) Schierholz, Patrick Schierholz; Jodi Schierholz, Peggy Schierholz, Kevin (Carolina) Schierholz, Jason Schierholz; Kristy (Steve) Barron; Elizabeth Schierholz, Patricia Schierholz, Stephanie Schierholz, Ryan Schierholz, Andrew Schierholz, Thomas Schierholz; Jamie Keune, Lindsey Keune. The great grandchildren include: Uriah (Tamesha) Mitts, Rechel Mitts, Justin Mitts, Chad Lantsberger, Brianna Lantsberger, Brice Lantsberger, Katey Lantsberger, Samantha Schierholz, Kaitlyn Schierholz, Kirsten Schierholz, Elena Schierholz; Rita Barron, Judy Barron, Joey Barron, Hunter Schierholz-Riley,; and two great great grandchildren, Tamiah Mitts and Uriah Mitts, Jr. Also surviving is a sister-in-law, Clara Blessum, who is in the Good Samaritan Center at West Union, and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Selma, who died January 11, 2002, two sisters, Melinda Reinhardt and Helen Drebenstedt, and a brother, Irving Schierholz.
Milton was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville. He was a past member of the Cattleman's Association and the County Extension Service.
