ROBERT O'NEILL BAKEWELL

Robert O'Neill "Bob" Bakewell, age 75, died Sunday, November 16, 2003, at St. John's Medical Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 19 at St. Piux Catholic church in Tulsa with Fr. Thomas Hildebrand officiating. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery at Tulsa. Moore's Eastlawn Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Bob Bakewell, a son of the late Arthur J. and Margaret L. (O'Neill) Bakewell of Lansing, was born on May 30, 1928, at LaCrosse, WI. He was raised on his parents' Oak Hill Farm at Lansing, attended rural and parochial schools there, and graduated from Loras College at Dubuque, IA.

He served with the U.S. Army's 43rd Infantry Division during the Korean War. On December 30, 1955, Bob married Ruth Ann Mendenhall of Tulsa. Bob had a distinguished career in the power transmission industry with MARSUCO, of Tulsa, and Boston Gear of Quincy, MA.

After his retirement he served as a volunteer worker at the Tulsa Better Business Bureau and was honored by the bureau with its Volunteer of the Year Award. He was a member of the American Legion for over 50 years and also of the Elks Lodge 946.

He is survived by his wife Ruth, of Tulsa; three children, William D. (Susan) Bakewell or Fayetteville, AR, Jill M. (David) Tribilcock of Tulsa, and John R. (Cheryl) Bakewell of Tulsa; seven grandchildren; and two siblings, Margaret E. (Robert) Welch, of rural Lansing, IA, and David Bakewell of Phoenix, AZ.

Bob Bakewell was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Korena D. Bakewell; and a brother, James A. Bakewell.
