The following was written to Mr. R. Isted, of Waukon, as as Mr. Istad knows nothing of the parties, we deem it best to publish the letter:
Paint Creek, March 26, 1863
Mr. R. Isted,
Dear Sir: In a letter to my son from Samuel Craig, written from Mound City Hospital, Ills, he says that a man by the name of "Dason Barnes" died there of small pox. He volunteered in the Lansing Company, 27th Regiment, and that his Mother and sister live near Waukon. He (Craig) thinks that they have not heard of his death. Would some good friend at Waukon inquire into this matter and let the friends of the deceased know?
Yours Respectfully,
James BrysonNotes: shown in records of Co. B, 27th IA the soldier's name was Doson Barnes, son of Philamon and Sarah Barnes. Death occurred 1/27/1863 and burial is in Mound City Natl Cemetery, Pulaski co., IL, Section b, grave 2608
