Mrs. ALEXANDER (Kathryn O'Halloran) Rush ABERNETHY 1862-1946

Mrs. Kathryn Abernethy, 84, a resident of this community for over half a century, passed away during the night from Sunday to Monday, the exact hour being undetermined that her daughter, Mrs. Cy Harrington, with whom she has made her home for the past eight years, called her Monday forenoon as prearranged in time for her favorite radio program, she got no response and upon investigation found that her mother had passed away in her sleep. Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock in the Schutte funeral home and at 2:00 in the Community Presbyterian church. The Rev. R. F. Galloway of Cedar Rapids, former pastor here, will be in charge of the services, and interment will be in Postville cemetery.

Mrs. Abernethy was born as Kathryn O'Halloran in McGregor July 20, 1862, as the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dan O'Halloran. She secured her education in the schools of McGregor and with her family went to Randalia as a young lady.

She was married at West Union to Grant Rush in 1877 and the family home was first established in West Union. To this union nine children were born, of whom four have passed away. Those surviving are Mrs. Margaret Howrey of Minneapolis; Sylvester (Ted) Rush of Mason City; Marie, Mrs. R. P. MonPlasure of Wenatchee, Wash.; Kittie, Mrs. Don Lantz of Minneapolis; Nina, Mrs. Cy Harrington of Postville. She is also survived by 26 grandchildren and 41 great grandchildren. The Rush family came to Postville March 17, 1895, and this has since been her home.

She was married to Alexander Abernethy in February 1906, he passing away in January, 1921.

Mrs. Abernethy endeared herself to all with whom she came in contact through her long and useful life. She was a member of the Presbyterian church and its Ladies Aid Society in which she was active a long as her health permitted.
