Mrs. JOHN L. (Ruth Angeline Dundee) BRAY 1876-1954

Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon for Mrs. John L. Bray, 77, from the home at 1:15 p.m. and 1:45 p.m. at the Bethel Memorial Evangelical United Brethren Church, Rev. A. W. Ebert officiating. Internment was made at the Smith cemetery.

Ruth Angeline Bray (nee Dundee) was born November 5, 1876 in Jefferson township, the daughter of John and Hulda Dundee. Her early girlhood days were spent in this same community.

On March 8, 1896, she was united in marriage to John L. Bray. They spent their married life together farming in this vicinity. To this union 13 children were born. Her husband and one daughter, Mabel (Mrs. Roy Hammond) preceded her in death. Two children also died in infancy.

Through Holy Baptism Mrs. Bray was received into the fellowship of the Bethel Memorial Evangelical United Brethren Church. She was faithful and devoted in her attendance until health no longer permitted her to attend.

Mrs. Bray was one of a family of eight children, four brothers and two sisters having preceded her in death. Mrs. Bray passed away quietly at her home on January 23, 1954, at 11:30 a.m. at the age of 77 years, two months and 17 days, her children all being with her at the time of her death.

She leaves to mourn her passing the following children: Raymond, Lawrence, and Lloyd at home; Ruby (Mrs. Charles Ewing) of Forest Mills; Mary, (Mrs. Harold Flack) of Postville; Julana, (Mrs. Richard McNally) of Postville; Myrtle, (Mrs. Marshall Burns) of Mt. Vernon; Dorothy, (Mrs Lenard Allen) of Postville; and Beulah (Mrs. Norman Starkey) of Postville; one sister, Mrs. Walter Bray of Lansing, and one brother, William Dundee, Luana. Thirty-one grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren also survive.
