Mrs. HORACE (Mary Kascel) Jenkins BURNHAM 1855-1929
Mary Kascel Burnham, widow of Horace Burnham, was born in Belgium May 13, 1855, and came to the United States with her parents when a child of two years locating at Lansing, Iowa, to make their home. Soon after arriving her mother died.
She was united in marriage to George Jenkins in 1873, to which union four children were born, two of whom survive her, Mrs. Clista Ferguson and Walter Jenkins, both of Monona, Iowa. On October 6, 1899 she was left a widow, but remained on their farm in Allamakee County until 1908 when she moved to Monona.
In January 1909 she was united in marriage to Horace Burnham, who passed away Jan. 31, 1925. She was a member of the Methodist Church, for years belonging to the Volney congregation.
She was also a member of the Woman's Relief Corp.Besides her two surviving children she is survived by eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Burnham was an industrious and hard working woman, and her life was marked with many sorrows and misfortunes. Her death ended an illness of about two years, but at no time would she allow the thought that she would not recover and be about her labors, until the last few days before her death. May her spirit be at rest with her Maker in that land where there is neither death nor sorrow.
Funeral services were held Sunday, May 19th, at the Methodist Church conducted by the pastor. The remains were attended at the church by the W. R. C. Burial was make in the Monona Cemetery.
