Mrs. JOHN (Lodema Laduska Ewing) DAVIS 1858-1941
Mrs. John Davis, 83, passed away at the home of her son Charles at Waukon on Christmas Day and funeral services were held there Saturday.
As Lodema Ewing she was born in Franklin Township and married John Davis in 1876. The couple for many years lived in Post Township, before moving to Waukon.
She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Leona Rupp of Waukon and Miss Evora Davis of Chicago, eight sons, Charles and Ben of Waukon; Carl of McGregor; Lester of Bruce, Wisconsin; Leo and Jacob of Joliet, Illinois; Arthur of Beloit, Wisconsin; and Bryl; 26 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
-Submitter's note: Lodema Laduska (Ewing) Davis was born June 16, 1858 to James Vickery Ewing and Elizabeth French. She married John Nathaniel Davis on December 24, 1876 at Forest Mills, Iowa. Marriage record can be found in the Waukon, Iowa Courthouse in Register 4, Page 285. John and Lodema were buried in the Oakland Cemetery at Waukon, Iowa. John was born May 13, 1854, in Ripley County, Indiana and died January 13, 1935. His parents were Berg Davis and Sarah Webster. The daughter, Miss Evora Davis married Albert August Fiet.

Death Claims 83 Year Old Pioneer Allamakee Woman Thursday
Mrs. John Davis passed away at the home of her son, Charles, in Waukon Christmas Day, following an illness of six years. She was 83 years of age. Lodema Ewing was born June 16, 1858, in Franklin township, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.V. Ewing. On December 24, 1876, she was united in marriage to John Davis. They farmed in this vicinity for 35 years when they retired and moved to Waukon. Mr. Davis passed away in 1935. Surviving are eight sons. They are Charles and Ben of Waukon, Leo, Arthur, and Jake of Beloit, Wis., Carl of McGregor, Lester of Bruce, Wis., and Byrl. Mrs. Davis is also survived by two daughters, Mrs. Leona Rupp of Waukon and Avora of Chicago. Services were held Saturday from the Martin Funeral Home in Waukon with the Rev. A.H. Grossheim officiating. Burial was made in the family lot in Oakland Cemetery. Pallbearers were I.E. Beeman, Elmer Briar, Paul Renne, Thomas Webster, C.A. Palmer, and Otto Fossum. Out of town relatives and friends, other than the children, who attended the funeral were Mrs. Altha Doubney of Decorah, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Brandt, Mrs. Elsie Gordon, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Wolf, Mr. and Mrs. John Schutte of Frankville, Mr. and Mrs. Morris Donovan of Caledonia and Joseph Rhomberg of Dubuque.
