Mrs. MORT C. (Bertha Uhl) DEERING 1881-1966

Mrs. Bertha Deering was born October 11, 1881, the daughter of John and Ann Uhl, near Postville, Iowa. She passed away at her home in Postville on June 10, 1966, reaching the age of 84 years and eight months. On October 11, 1903, she was united in marriage to Mort C. Deering. They were engaged in farming until they retired to Postville in 1935.

To this union was born four children: one son, Irving who passed away in 1957; three daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Fischer, Esther, Mrs. Kenneth Schultz, both of Postville, and Marjorie, Mrs. W. S. Wallis of Renton, Washington.

She was a member of the Community Presbyterian Church in Postville and was elected an elder in 1948. She was a loyal and devoted member of the Women's Association and served in the church in many capacities.

She is survived, besides her daughters, by seven grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren; also one brother, Jess Uhl of Waukon, Iowa, several nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held Monday, June 13, 1966 at 2:00 p.m., at the Community Presbyterian Church, Postville, the Rev. Dick Harberts officiating.

Burial was in the Postville cemetery.
