Lansing, Ia. April 26 - Miss Mary Monk passed away at her home on Diagonal street Wednesday evening at 5:30 o'clock, after a year's illness from cancer.
The deceased was born in Georgetown Ill., on August 27, 1849, and when a young woman came to Lime Springs, where she attended the academy. For over twenty years she taught school here, and was recognized as one of the leading teachers in the community.
Her father died a number of years ago, and her mother's death occurred in 1909. She was the last member of her family. She was a member of the First Presbyterian church, and a teacher in the Sunday school. She was a good Christian woman, and highly respected. The funeral was held on Friday afternoon and interment was made in Oak Hill cemetery.
