Added by Reid R. Johnson, 6/2/2013:

Enos Ervin was born in Pickeraltown, Logan county, Ohio, June 25, 1834. At the age of eight years he moved with his parents to Union county, Ohio. When he was 23 years of age he came to Postville which has been his home ever since. He was married to Roxena Ellis, who died in February 1860 [or 1866], leaving two children - Mrs. Thomas Hoover of Flasher, North Dakota, and Frank of Postville. His last wife, Bennett Wells, had three children - Percy, George B. of Tracy, Minn., and Mrs. Mame Ettje Muchow of Postville. After an illness of over two years he died July 17, 1916, at his home in this city at the age of 82 years and 22 days. He is survived by four children and 20 grandchildren.

Mr. Ervin was for many years one of the best known men in this section. He was always industrious, having conducted a dray line in Postville until failing health caused him to dispose of it some years ago that he might take up lighter work better suited to his weakened condition, and for a time he engaged in the occupation of carpet weaving.

He was by nature a social and jovial man of many good parts and drew about him a large coterie of friends who will regret to learn of his passing. During his later years he has suffered considerably from his bodily afflictions and death thus came to him not as a dread messenger, but rather as the bearer of a balm that brought sweet release from physical pain.

The funeral was held from the home at two p.m. Wednesday, Rev. P. M. Phillips officiating. Interment in the Postville cemetery.

~Postville Review, Fri., 21 July 1916

Note: An example of the character of Enos Ervin, can be read in the notes of the obituary of Guy, Charles Bertram 1813 - 1894.
