The death of R.G. Pratt at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday came as a shock to our citizens, though his death has been expected for some time, he became a sufferer from consumption. He had been able to be around about town for some time and had worked in the barber shop a little, but had a bad spell. Tuesday night, raising large quantities of blood, which finally strangled him at the above hour. Mr. Pratt was a very pleasant gentleman and everyone who knew him could not but like him, and so far as we know he has not a single enemy in town, and his death will be universally regretted.
Deceased was born at Bancroft, Maine, April 16, 1839, being 61 years old. On November 11, 1860 he was married to Miss Jennie Miller, of Waukon, and four children were the result of their union, two of whom preceded him to their Heavenly home, and two, Mrs. Carrie Field, of Storm Lake and A.J. Pratt, of this city survive him, together with his wife. Mr. Pratt and his family came to Sanborn about five years ago, and engaged in the barber business at which trade he worked until his health gave out, since which time he has suffered much pain, and death to him was not an altogether unwelcome visitor.
Mr. Pratt was a member of the 12th Iowa, serving several years in the Union army with credit and honor and his Comrades of the G.A.R. will have charge of the funeral services which occur at 2 p.m. today (Thursday) from the M.E. church.
