The Sanborn Pioneer, Thursday, July 28, 1949, Sanborn, Iowa, Page 1

Henrietta Downs was born February 27, 1870, at Bagley, Wisconsin, and passed away Sunday, July 17, 1949, at her home in Waukon, Iowa.

She was married to Chas. J. Burt at Bloomington, Wisc., on September 6, 1888. The first few years of their married life was spent at Bloomington; they then moved to Waukon, Iowa, which had been her home ever since. Mr. Burt passed away 17 years ago at Waukon.

Six children were born to their union, all of whom survive. They are Edward, of Clermont, Iowa; Elgie, of Waterloo; Edna Stone, Chicago; Gretta Protextor, Sanborn; Leona Running, Waukon; Earl of Chicago. There are ten grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother, Frank Downs, of Waukon.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 19, at the Martin Funeral Home in Waukon, the Rev. Braun, Methodist pastor there, conducting the last rites.

Marian Ludeman, of Waukon, a classmate of Mrs. E. Protextor, sang two hymns: "Abide With Me" and "Nearer My God To Thee."

In charge of the flowers were Naomi Mahoney Minegar, Edith Gleisner, Lydia Schuker, Mabel Palmer.

Burial was at Waukon. Casketbearers were six grandsons, Charles Burt, Wilbur Cook, Donald Burt all of Waterloo, Gene Wells, Benson, Minn., Leonard Larson, Clermont, and John Protextor, Sanborn.

Mrs. Burt was a member of the Methodist church and also of the Rebekah lodge. She had visited frequently in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Protextor and family here and had many acquaintances who soon became her friends. She was a person who made friends easily. She spent much time doing for others. Besides rearing her own family, she made a home for two grandchildren, Clinton Huffman and June Running.

A precious one from us has gone,
A voice we loved is stilled;
A place is vacant in our home,
Which never can be filled.
God in His wisdom has recalled
The boon His love had given,
And though the body slumbers here,
The soul is safe in Heaven.

In Appreciation
We wish to extend our sincere thanks and appreciation for the beautiful floral offerings, expressions of sympathy and acts of kindness received from our many friends and relatives at the time of the death and burial of our beloved mother.
The Family of Mrs. Chas. Burt
