Robert E. Topel of Waukon, formerly of Monona, died on Wednesday, November13, 2002 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon following a brief illness. He was 72.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 16, at Leonard Funeral Home in Monona. Rev. Dennis Gilbert officiated. Burial was in the Sixteen Cemetery in rural Monona. Leonard Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Robert was born to Herman and Selda (Timmerman) Topel on August 1, 1930, in rural Monona. He attended country schools including Minor Ridge and Figgy School.
He married Dorothy Johnson in 1954 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.
Robert farmed for a few years, was employed at Anderson Produce in Waukon for many years and Northern Engraving for twenty years.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting, fishing, golfing and playing softball.
Preceding him in death were a son, Robert in infancy and a sister, Darlene Keehn.
Surviving are two sons, Steve and wife Cindy Topel of Waukon and Tom Topel of Elgin; a grandson, Chris Sorenson; a great-granddaughter, Kaylee Mamnon; a step grandson, Dustin Lewey; five brothers, Wilburt Topel of Milwaukee, WI, Alfred Topel, Donny Topel, and Wayne Topel, all of Waukon, Gary Topel of Corpus Christi, TX and a sister, Eileen Schindoll of Waukon.
