WILLIAM WILLIS EWING 1915-1961
William Willis Ewing, son of William Stuart and Hannah Bacon Ewing, was born at Postville, Iowa, March 21, 1915. His early youth was spent in the rural Postville community and he was a graduate of Postville high school.
On October 16, 1936, he was united in marriage with Dorothy L. Olson of Elgin. To this union were born two sons, Richard Allen and Ronald William.
Mr. Ewing led an active life as a buttermaker in the Postville, LaMotte and Holy Cross creameries and for 13 years was the manager and buttermaker of the Farley creamery. During his residence in Farley, he also served several terms as president of the school board. He was a member of the Farley Community Methodist Church, Past Grand Master of the Farley Masonic Lodge, and Past Worthy Patron of the Eastern Star.
He was preceded in death by his father, William S. Ewing, Sr. and a year ago by his wife, Dorothy, after which he made his home with his brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Otto E. Olson of Elgin.
After a lingering illness, he passed away at the Postville Community Hospital on January 24, 1961 at the age of 45 years, 10 months and three days.
He leaves to mourn his passing his two sons, Richard of Cedar Rapids and Ronald of Iowa State University, Ames; one daughter-in-law Marilyn, and one grandson, Paul Keith of Cedar Rapids; his mother and step-father, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Davis of Postville; three sisters, Hazel (Mrs. Otto Olson) of Elgin, Mabel (Mrs. Bertie Waters) of Postville, and Gladys (Mrs. Verne Stover) of Martelle; one brother, Robert of Waterloo; and many other relatives and friends.
The burial was at the Elgin cemetery.
