An Insane Man's Act.
Lansing, Nov. 11.—A lamentable catastrophe occurred here yesterday. The 12-year-old son of Chris Rud was run down by a freight train and his leg severed below the knee. The father took the matter to heart so that he became irresponsible, assaulting an officer, who landed him in jail. Within 20 minutes the jail and city hall was discovered on fire and the agonizing shrieks of the prisoner told that he had paid the penalty of his recklessness with his life. The building cost $12,000, and was totally destroyed. Rud leaves a large family in destitute circumstances.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows this was Christ Rudd who is buried in Oak Hill Cemetery in Lansing and that he was born in 1851 and died Nov. 10, 1900.
