PERKINS, WHEELER, THOMPSON, JOHNSON, KNIGHT, CLARK, LAND

Henry Orlando Perkins, son of Henry S. and Levina Perkins, was born in Postville, Iowa, August 31, 1867, and passed away at his home in Oelwein, November 8, 1933. His youth and young manhood was spent in Postville and Waukon. Eighteen years ago Mr. Perkins came to Oelwein and has made this his home since that time.

He was a man of genial temperament making and holding a large number of friends.

Mr. Perkins was a member of the I.O.O.F. No. 298, in which order he was held in high esteem, having been a member for twenty-five years.

He leaves to mourn his sudden passing his devoted wife, two daughters, Mrs. Inez Thompson of Waukon, Iowa; Mrs. Ethel Johnson of Chicago, Illinois; two step-sons C.E. Knight and M.L. Knight of Chicago; one sister Mrs. Mary Clark of Manley, Iowa; two half-brothers P.L. Perkins of Postville, Iowa and E.J. Perkins of Portland, Oregon; one half-sister Mrs. Cora Land of Monona, Iowa. Also a large group of neighbors and friends.

The funeral services were conducted by Rev. and Mrs. C.E. Hillis at the Hintz Funeral Home, November 10 at 10:00 A.M. Mr. H.J. Gariz and daughter Miss Elizabeth Gartz sang "Someday I'll Understand" and "Where Jesus is, can come no Night". The members of the I.O.O.F. held their burial service, the chaplain accompanying the funeral party to Farmersburg where the body was laid to rest.

Note: his death certificate (familysearch.org) names his parents as H.F. Perkins and Levina Wheeler; wife as Effie Perkins. The contributor does not know if the obit or death cert. has the father's name correct.
