JACOB FRITZ

Jacob Fritz, engineer at the city pumping station, died at his home, 1404 Market street, Tuesday afternoon, October 10, after an illness of five weeks. Mr. Fritz was 72 years of age.

He was born in Diessenhofen, Switzerland, April 13 1844, and came to America at the age of fifteen. He was married to Louise Borey at Lansing, Iowa, forty-seven years ago.

Besides the widow, seven children survive. They are Herman, Arnold, Robert, Mildred, Otto and Freda Fritz, and Mrs. J. W. Kennedy of Omaha, Neb. Two brothers, Conrad Fritz of New Albin, Iowa, and William Fritz of Church, Iowa, also survive. The funeral took place Friday and was largely attended.

Jacob Fritz Dead

Many of the older residents of Lansing will remember Jacob Fritz, twenty-five years ago an employe of the Boeckh, Luger & Co. foundry in this city.

His boyhood days were spent at the old home on Lansing Ridge, the Fritz blacksmith shop being a landmark known to every man traveling the Lansing-Waukon road in the olden days. The shop was operated by the older Fritz and the place was as well known as was Nees' place a few miles farther west.

Mr. Fritz died at his home in La Crosse on Tuesday of last week. He was engineer at the city pumping station. His age was 72 years and six months. His illness dated back about five weeks.

As told by LaCroase papers decedent was born at Dilesenhofen, Switzerland, April 13, 1844, and came to this country at the age of 15 years. He was married in Lansing to Miss Louise Boney 47 years ago. The widow and seven children survive. They are Herman, R. B., Arnold, Mrs. John Kennedy, Mildred, Otto and Ffrieda all of LaCrosse except Mrs. Kennedy who resides in Omaha, Neb. There are also two brothers, Conrad of New Albin and William of Church, this county.

The funeral took place Friday afternoon, interment in LaCrosse.

Decedent was born at Diesenhofen, Switzerland, April 13, 1844 and came to this country at the age of 15 years. He was married at Lansing, Ia., to Miss Louise Bony 47 years ago. The widow and seven children survive. They are Herman, Arnold, Mrs. John W. Kennedy, Mildred, Otto and Frieda, all of La Crosse except Mrs. Kennedy who resides in Omaha, Neb. There are also two brothers, Conrad of New Albin and William of Church, Ia. Funeral services will be announced later.

The funeral of Jacob Fritz, engineer at the city pumping station who died Tuesday afternoon will be held from the home, Fourteenth and Market streets at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon. Rev. E. Vornholt will officiate and interment will be in Oak Grove cemetery. In the announcement of the death printed in the Leader-Press Wednesday the name of R. B. Fritz was inadvertently omitted in the list of seven children who, with widow, survive.

Funeral services for the late Jacob Fritz were held Friday afternoon at the home at 1401 Market street where Rev. E. Vornholt of the German Reform church officiated.

The pallbearers were H. Holtz, Edward Kimball and John McMann of the Stationary Engineers' society and Edward Luedtke, John Liesenfeld and John Poellinger of the Governor's Guards' association, who attended in a body.

The usual three salutes were fired over the grave. The obsequies were largely attended.
