ELMER W. HAGER 1918-1995

HAGER, STOCK, KOLSRUD, BROWN, MARBURG, KING, GUESE

Elmer W. Hager, son of Henry Frederick and Rose Etta (Stock) Hager, was born on his parent's Ludlow Township farm on February 6, 1918. He died November 7, 1995 at the Good Samaritan Center, Waukon, Iowa. He was 78 years old.

Elmer attended Frankville School. He was married to Caryl N. Kolsrud on September 10, 1940 at the Old East Paint Creek Lutheran Church by Rev. A. P. Lea.

From 1946 to 1949 he lived in California and worked for Pacific Gas and Electric. The rest of his life he lived and farmed in Ludlow Township where he was also a Northrup King Seed dealer. He retired from farming in 1964 and did electrical work in Decorah and Independence before fully retiring in 1978.

Elmer was active at Bethlehem Presbyterian Church where he was a former Elder and Sunday School teacher, Ludlow township Trustee and election board member. He also served over 30 years on the Postville Rural Fire Board.

He enjoyed fishing, baseball, playing cards, reading, woodworking and traveling to see his children. He had been a resident of Good Samaritan Home in Waukon since October of 1993.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Caryl in 1990, an infant daughter, Norma in 1950, a brother, Lester, and sisters, Arlene Hager and Dorothy Hager.

Survivors include three daughters, Caryl Brown of San Jose, Calif., Karen and her husband, Loren Marburg of Morgan Hill, Calif., and Eileen and her husband, Rick King of Columbia, Mo., a sister, Doris Guese of Postville, and a brother, Donald and his wife, Deloris Hager of Postville. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Suzanne and Amy Brown, Shahn and Kevin Marburg, and Corey and Kristin King.

Funeral services were held Saturday, November 11, 1995 at Bethlehem Presbyterian Church with Rev. James Walker officiating.

Casketbearers were Greg Hager, Lyle Guese, Marvin Adam, Gary Wiedenmann, Kent Wiedenmann, Terry Kolsrud, Brandon Guese and Craig Adam.

Martin Funeral Home of Waukon was in charge of arrangements. Burial was at Bethlehem Cemetery.
