Maren Simonson was born in Haaland**, Norway, September 28, 1827, and came with her parents and settled in Trout Run, Winneshiek County, in the spring of 1851 and in the fall*** of that year was married to Hans A. Hanson. They resided in Winneshiek County til 1854 when they moved to Hanover township, Allamakee County, locating on section 15 for a short time and then made their home on section 29, at the mouth of Patterson Creek, which continued to be their home till the fall of 1896 when they made their home in Waukon.
To them were born nine children, Jane, deceased; Albert residing in Ada, Minn; Henry and Ada (Mrs. Sanaker) residing in Waukon; Oliver at Buxton, M.D.; Halvor and Lena, deceased and Oscar and Etta**** residing in Allamakee County.
Seven years ago her health was greatly shattered by an attack of grip, and on last Thanksgiving Day she slipped on an icy walk and fell causing the breaking of a limb which confined her to her bed and from which she was a great, though patient, sufferer, until death came to release her from pain.
In early life she was confirmed as a member of the Lutheran church and lived a noble faithful Christian life, a blessed influence to the family relatives and a large circle of acquaintances. She leaves a husband, six children, brothers, Halvor and Hans Simonsen and a large number of relatives to mourn her loss.
The funeral was held Saturday at the home of Mrs. M. Sanaker, services being conducted by revs. Hellesvedt of the Lutheran church and McCord of the M.E. church. Her remains were laid to rest in Oakland cemetery.
