Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 16 Apr. 1914.

Cyprian Martet, an old French trapper, who was found dead in his boat in an island cove of the Mississippi, opposite Harpers Ferry, Iowa, was an odd character and lived most of the time on the island trapping and hunting. He made enemies of other hunters by driving them off the island, and it is believed that he was shot by one of these, either in cold blood or during a quarrel. No arrests have been made. Martet has a family living in Harpers Ferry. He left the morning of the shooting to go up the river for wood. His wife heard two shots in the afternoon, and they are thought to have been the ones which killed him.
