ROBERT DUANE (Sonny) KERR 1941-2000
Robert Duane (Sonny) Kerr, the son of Robert Kerr, Sr. and Grace (Peters) Kerr, was born November 2, 1941 in the West Union, Iowa Hospital.
He passed away Saturday, August 19, 2000, in a Scottsbluff, Nebraska Hospital from injuries suffered in a truck accident early in the week.
Sonny had reached the age of 58 years, nine months and 17 days. He was baptized April 20, 1962, confirmed April 22, 1962 and received into membership of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville, Iowa, by the Reverend Charles E. Witt.
Sonny graduated from the Valley High School at Elgin, Iowa.On July 23, 1961 Sonny was married to Kathleen Helen Meyer in St. Paul Lutheran Church at Postville. To this union two sons, Kim and Kevin, were born.
They have lived their entire life in Postville, where Sonny worked as a milk hauler and truck driver. Sonny loved his family and enjoyed being with them. He especially liked having his grandchildren come to visit and spend time with them. He was an avid golfer as well and also liked to listen to country music.
He is preceded in death by his father, Robert Sr., a sister, Delores Meyer, his father-in-law, Vernas Meyer, and a sister-in-law, Nancy (Meyer) Ulrich.
Surviving is his wife, Katie, his children, Kim Kerr and special friend, Michelle Craddock, of Englewood, FL and Kevin and his wife Debra, of Postville; six grandchildren, Kelli, Kendra, and Keisha Kerr, all of Postville and Kollin, Kaitlyn, and Kourtney Kerr, all of Florida; his mother, Grace Kerr of Elgin, IA; a brother, William Kerr and wife, Yvonne, of Clermont, IA; three sisters, Colleen and husband, Robert Vargason, of Iowa City, IA; Lois Wickett and special friend, Dick Odenbach, of Des Moines, IA; Karolyn Moritz and special friend, Garry Schott, of West Union, IA; brother-in-law, Harlo Meyer of Sac City, IA; brother-in-law Dennis Meyer and wife, Jane of Waukon, IA; sister-in-law, Elaine and husband, Jim Rima, of Oquawka, IL; Karen Meyer of Postville, and Pat and husband Darwin Nieman, also of Postville and his mother-in-law, Beulah Meyer, of Postville; other relatives and many friends.
Interment: Postville cemetery.
