JOHN J. MARTINS

Funeral services were held Friday, Jan. 2, 1970 at 11:00 a.m. from St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville for John J. Martins. The Rev. Arthur Tolo officiated.

John J. Martins, son of John and Mary Klinkenberg Martins, was born on a farm in Grand Meadow Township, Clayton county, on August 13, 1902. He passed away at the Community Memorial Hospital in Postville on Dec. 30, 1969, at the age of 67 years, four months and 17 days.

John was baptized on August 20, 1902. He was confirmed on April 1, 1917 in St. John's Lutheran Church, Luana.

On August 31, 1927 he was united in marriage with Hilda Meyer. To this union was born seven children: John of Dubuque, Bernald, Virgil, Jerald and Stanley of Postville, Mary of Chicago and Janice of Milwaukee.

Mr. Martins farmed in the Postville area and served the community with a dairy route for 27 years. He was a life time member of the Lutheran Church and served on the Church Council. He was active in community affairs including the Allamakee Farm Bureau and was an honorary member of the local Future Farmers of America Chapter.

He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, seven children, 13 grandchildren, two brothers: Leska of Luana and Gerwin of Postville, four sisters: Anna (Mrs. Gus Lenth) of Farmersburg, Mary (Mrs. William Radloff) of Luana, Elsie (Mrs. Walter Tietz) of Frankville, and Effie (Mrs. Roy Saacke) of Farmersburg and many nieces and nephews.

Burial was in the Postville Cemetery.
