Mrs. CHRIST (Ida Gericke) MEIER

Mrs. Christ Meier, Ida Elizabeth Marie Gericke, was born November 24, 1875 in Clayton Center, Iowa, the daughter of Johann Gericke and Marie Klinge Gericke. She was baptized on June 25, 1876 at Zion Lutheran Church, Clayton Center. She was confirmed on April 14, 1889 at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Postville.

She was married to Christ Meier on October 10, 1893 in St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Postville. To this union were born six children, Melinda, Mrs. Louis Thoma of Postville, Mathilda, Mrs. Lynn Gordanier of Kalamazoo, Michigan, Lillian, Mrs. Roy Moon of Des Moines, and Cloy of San Leandro, California, and Emil and Ruby, deceased.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two children, two sisters, Bertha, Mrs. Wendell Wagner of Postville and Senda, Mrs. Asbjorn Morch of Postville, and three brothers, William, Fred and Henry of Postville.

She is survived by four children, three sisters, Amelia, Mrs. Otto Sander, of Postville, Mrs. Amanda Sebastian of Postville, and Mathilda Gericke of Postville; one brother, John Gericke of Postville, three grandchildren, two great grandchildren, a number of nieces and nephews, and many other relatives and friends.

She passed away at the Postville Hospital on October 24, 1958 at the age of 82 years, 11 months.

Services were conducted at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Postville on October 27, 1958, with the pastor, the Rev. Charles E. Witt, officiating.
