CARL FREDERICH MEIER

Carl Frederich Meier, the son of Ludwig Meier and his wife, Charlotte Wernhardt Meier, was born near Farmersburg, Iowa on January 17, 1876. He was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church, Clayton Center, Iowa on March 4, 1876 and confirmed at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Postville on April 14, 1889. He died at the Delaware County Hospital in Manchester, Iowa on February 28, 1964 at the age of 88 years, one month and 11 days.

He was married to Emma Eggert on December 21, 1898. To this union were born two daughters. The couple lived in Postville all of their lives, where Fred was a livestock dealer for 55 years.

He served as a director of the Postville State Bank since 1911, and as vice president from 1918 to 1925, president from 1958 to 1964. He was always active in community life and was a faithful member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church all of his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Louis, Chris and Henry Meier, all of Postville; and one sister, Mrs. Louisa Kamp of Postville.

He is survived by his wife, who is living at the Good Neighbor Nursing Home in Manchester; two daughters, Pearl, Mrs. Harold Eberling of Hot Springs, Arkansas and Helene, Mrs. Kenneth Ottsen of Cedar Rapids; two sisters, Mrs. Emma Hein of Postville and Mrs. Minnie Hein of Wabash, Indiana; seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted in St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Postville on March 1, 1964 at 2:00 p.m. Interment was in the Postville cemetery with The Rev. Charles E. Witt, Pastor, in charge.
