page 3Another civil war veteran, who was a prisoner in the famous Libby prison, has been summoned by death. He is the venerable Hugh McCabe, pioneer of Allamakee county, who died at his home there and was buried with fitting honors.
He was born in Ireland over ninety years ago and came to America in his early youth. He joined the colors when the civil war broke out and fought at Forts Henry and Donelson and was captured at Shiloh. He was a prisoner at Macon, Ga., and later at Libby prison.
He and his wife and children celebrated their golden wedding last year and Rev. Father Lowrey of Cedar Rapids, who performed the original wedding ceremony was at the celebration.
