MELVIN ANTON NOLTING
Melvin A. Nolting, 87, of Waukon, died Tues., March 6, 2001, at Veterans Memorial hospital in Waukon. Funeral services were held Fri., March 9 at Zion United Church of Christ in Waukon with Rev. Richard N. Eick officiating. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery, Waukon.
Melvin Anton Nolting was born on Aug. 6, 1913, on the Ludlow Township farm of his parents, Herman and Lydia (Hager) Nolting. He was baptized and confirmed at Zalmona Presbyterian Church and attended Ludlow #1 rural school and Waukon High School. Following school he worked on several neighbor's farms.
On Nov. 10, 1937, he married Eleanor Stock at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Soon after, they bought the Nolting home farm and set up a dairy, beef, and hog operation. They remained farming until moving to Waukon in 1967.
Melvin was a long-time member of Zion United Church of Christ. He enjoyed fishing and flowers. Melvin also enjoyed playing cards and spending time with his family.
Melvin is preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Todd; a great-grandson, Cade; and four brothers, Otto, Martin, Milton, and Ruben.
Survivors include his wife, Eleanor; two daughters, LaVonne (Ernest) Palas and Joyce (Gene) Knox; one son, Gary (Faye) Nolting; and one sister, Florence Cooper, all of Waukon. He is additionally survived by 10 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Casketbearers were Greg Palas, Chad Nolting, Steve Knox, Jeremy Troendle, Greg Benjegerdes, and George Opperman.
