Funeral services for Dennis O'Meara were held Friday morning at the Hanover Catholic church, Fr. P. Reynolds celebrating the mass of requiem. Burial took place at Lycurgus, the pall bearers being Michael Devitt, Jos. Zoll, Thomas Byrnes, Joe Dixon, Wm. Gavin and Phillip McGraw.

Mr. O'Meara's death occurred on Wednesday last at the home of his son James in Hanover township and was caused from pneumonia that developed, following a fractured hip he received ten days previous. Deceased was a native of Connecticut, where he was born Sept. 15, 1849 and was in his 87th year. He came to Allamakee county in 1867 with his parents, who settled on the farm where his death occurred. Before coming to this county the family resided for several years in Winneshiek county.

In 1876 he was wedded to Ann M. Fenelon, who with three daughters preceded him in death. An only son James survives. Also 17 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Mrs. O'Meara was a sister of Mrs. James Holahan and the late Mrs. Thomas Moroney.

Relatives from a distance in attendance at the services were Maurice, Bert, Linda and Margaret Fenelon, Mrs. Fred Boyd and daughter Betty, Dubuque; Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Shields and daughter Anna, and Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Shea, Lime Springs, Mrs. Nelle Shea, Cresco and John Moroney, Mason City. (Lime Springs, Bonair and Cresco are all in Howard Co., Iowa; Mason City is in Cerro Gordo, Co., Iowa)
