Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. last Friday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church for Fred C. Ruckdaschel who passed away at his home September 25 following a period of declining health. The rites were in charge of Rev. Frederick R. Ludwig.
Mr. Ruckdaschel was a lifelong resident of this community having been in business here since 1914. He served on the town council for a number of years.
Ludwig Frederick Christian Ruckdaschel, son of Christian Ruckdaschel and Katherina Poesch Ruckdaschel, was born May 4, 1883 in Grand Meadow township, Clayton county and departed this life, after a period of declining health, on September 25, 1951, at his late home in Postville, aged 68 years, four months and 21 days.
Mr. Ruckdaschel was received into active membership in the Lutheran Church, also in this the St. Paul’s congregation of Postville.
Mr. Ruckdaschel was united in marriage with Rosina Koenig on February 22, 1906. To this union one son, Elrie, who survives, was born. Mrs. Ruckdaschel departed this life in November 1931. Mr. Ruckdaschel was united in marriage with Flossie Moon of Farmersburg on June 25, 1942.
He spent his entire life as a resident of this community. From the years 1916 to the year 1940 he operated a garage in Postville. Through the years from 1918 to 1940 he served as the Ford dealer in this community. Since 1940 he was engaged in construction work and served on the city council for many years. An outstanding monument to his memory is his service rendered as the superintendent of construction in the erection of the present St. Paul’s church plant.
Left to mourn his passing are his widow, Flossie Moon Ruckdaschel; one son, Elrie, of Postville; three grandchildren; one great grandchild; two brothers: Walter and Victor, both of Postville; one sister: Alma, Mrs. Ed Oldag, of Postville; as well as many other relatives and friends.
Mr. Ruckdaschel was preceded in death by his first wife; his parents; one brother, John; and a sister in infancy.
