Funeral service for Mr. Ruckdaschel was held this afternoon in the Edwin Oldag home with Rev. F. R. Ludwig officiating. Burial was made in the Postville cemetery.
Pallbearers were Lavern Ruckdaschel, Merrill Dean Ruckdaschel, Elrie Ruckdaschel, Ed. Poesch, Eldo Kluss and Ernie Ruckdaschel, the latter of Decorah.
Christian Land Ruckdaschel was born May 17, 1853, while his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Ruckdaschel, were crossing the Atlantic Ocean on their way from Germany to America. He was given the middle name, Land, because land was first sighted from the boat on the day of his birth. After reaching this country, they went directly to the Clayton Center vicinity where they made their home.
On November 18, 1879, he was married at Clayton Center to Miss Katherine Poesch by his brother-in-law, the late Rev. Seifert. Six children were born to their union, four of whom survive: Fred, Walter and Victor Ruckdaschel and Mrs. Edwin Oldag, all of Postville. He is also survived by one sister, Mrs. William Kluss; 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Mr. Ruckdaschel was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, on February 27, 1932, after more than 50 years of married life on a farm two miles east of Postville, now occupied by a son, Victor.
[note: Christ was murdered in his home.]
