FRED LEONARD SANDERSON 1901-1990
Funeral services for Fred Leonard Sanderson, 88, of Waukon, were June 16, 1990, at 11 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Lynn Groe officiating. He died June 13 at the Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Burial was at the Ridgeway Lutheran Cemetery, with Martin's Funeral Home of Waukon in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers were David Sanderson, Dennis Sanderson, Alan Sanderson, Ron Sanderson, Don Sanderson and Dale Sanderson.
He was born July 19, 1901, in Ridgeway, the son of Ole and Tolena Johnson Sanderson. He attended rural school near Ridgeway for eight years. He was baptized and confirmed at Ridgeway Lutheran Church.
He was owner/operator of Schley Creamery in 1923-24, and was a cheese and butter maker at Ridgeway and Schley. He farmed in rural Ridgeway from 1925 to 1960, and moved to Edgerton, Wis., in 1960 where he was maintenance man at Nunn-Bush Shoe Factory. He moved to Waukon in 1973, and had lived at the Good Samaritan Center for the past three months.
He married the former Mabel B. Magnus June 20, 1923, at Ridgeway Lutheran Church. He was a member of the senior citizens of Waukon, and he enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and was a carpenter and handyman.
He is survived by his wife Mabel; one son, Richard "Sandy" Sanderson of Waukon; 11 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; one brother, Alton Sanderson, Ridgeway; and two sisters, Mrs. Thelma Luhman of Decorah and Mrs. Sara LaVelle of Decorah.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Merlin Donald Sanderson who died Sept. 20, 1989; three brothers, Anton, Carl and Roy; and three sisters, Anette, Ethel and Verna.
