Rites Held For Former Resident
Winnie May Sawyer, daughter of John Frederick Miller and Annetta Sawyer Miller, was born, December 17, 1889, Franklin township, Iowa.
Her first years of schooling were spent at Cherry Valley School and Postville high school. She attended Highland Park college in Des Moines.
She was united in marriage to Dwight W. Sawyer, January 3, 1920 in Livingston, Montana. The following year she moved to Jackson, Michigan and later to Battle Creek where she resided until her death on August 16, 1961.
She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star.
Her friends were numbered by her acquaintances and she was happiest when doing things for people, especially elderly folks.
Mrs. Sawyer's father died in 1927, her mother in 1945, also one brother Frank L. Miller died in 1945.
She is survived by her husband, Dwight W. Sawyer of Battle Creek, Michigan; one sister, Florence of Fairhope, Alabama; three brothers, Earl F. Miller of Luana, Ross C. Miller of Cedar Rapids and Harva O. Miller of Postville; ten nieces and nephews; and 25 great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at the Schutte Funeral Home on Monday at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Walter T. Martin in charge of the rites. Burial was in the Postville cemetery.
