Funeral services were held in Saint Patrick's Catholic Church in Monona on Mon., March 19, 1973, for Mrs. Lionel (Lucretia) Scheffert with Father Donald Heineman officiating at the Requiem Mass at 10:30 a.m. David Klingeman presided at the organ, and the adult church choir provided vocal music.

Mrs. Scheffert passed away early Saturday morning at Prairie Memorial hospital after a lingering illness. Her husband and children were at her bedside at the time of her passing.

Lucretia Ellen Schofield was the daughter and youngest of four children of George and Katherine (nee Grady) Schofield. She was born Oct. 25, 1918, on Irish Ridge in Allamakee County and her entire life was spent in this community. She was baptized on Nov. 17, 1918, by Father J. McNamara, and confirmed Nov. 7, 1932 by Archbishop Francis J. Beckman, both rites being administered in St. Patrick's Church.

She attended country school near her home for eight years, and Saint Patrick's High School for two years. The last two years of high school were spent in Monona High School from which she graduated in 1935. Her education was further extended by attending Waukon Junior College, following which she taught school on Irish Ridge.

On July 26, 1938, she was united in marriage with Lionel J. Scheffert in Saint Patrick's Catholic Church and began their life together on a farm on Irish Ridge. From there they moved to a farm east of Rossville where they lived for three years. In 1942 they purchased the farm southeast of Watson where they have since lived.

Mrs. Scheffert was a life long member of St. Patrick's Church, a member of the Rosary Society and very active in all aspects of the life of her church.

She leaves to mourn her passing her husband and four children: Arlen of Cedar Rapids, Duane of Monona, Donnie of Prairie du Chien, and Mrs. Don (Donna Lou) Huinker of Baraboo, Wis., as well as eight grandchildren. Three brothers also survive: Michael and Donald Schofield of rural Monona, and Harold Schofield of Arizona. Her parents preceded her in death.

Pallbearers were George Balekos, Sr., Hubert Berns, Milton Voss, Clarence Theisen, Reynold Scheffert, Vince Ambrose, John Boardman and Omer Zapf.

Interment was in St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery.
