Mrs. CLOY (Viola Weihe) SCHULTZ

Viola Louisa Magdalene Weihe Schultz, the daughter of John Christian Weihe and Caroline (Meyer) Weihe, was born September 24, 1908 at the Birch Lawn Farm in Grand Meadow Township, Clayton County, south of Postville, Iowa.

She passed away Saturday night, April 24, 1999 in the Good Samaritan Center at Waukon, Iowa. She had reached the age of 90 years and seven months. She was baptized November 29, 1908 by the Reverend Kuhne in St. Paul Lutheran Church at Postville and confirmed August 16, 1925.

Viola's first grade teacher was Miss Cora B. Darling. During her school years she played basketball and became a member of the high school team during her sophomore year. She graduated in 1926 and attended Carthage College in Illinois. Viola was the recipient of the Postville High School Harriet E. Mott Award.

On December 7, 1927 Viola was married to Cloy Fred Schultz in St. Paul Lutheran Church at Postville by the Reverend E. T. Finck. To this union four sons and two daughters were born. For four years they lived in Postville while Cloy worked at the local creamery. They farmed for the next 35 years, moving to Postville in 1963.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Cloy, who died in 1970, a daughter, Carole (Mrs. Stan Lindquist), a son, Grant Schultz, a grandson, David Schultz, and a great grandson, Elijah Schultz, four brothers, Clarence Henry Weihe, the Reverend LeRoy Fredrick Weihe, Orville Elmer Weihe and the Reverend Clifton Meyer Weihe and a sister, Florence Weihe, who died in infancy.

Surviving are three sons, Cloy Schultz, Jr. and his wife, Lorraine, John "Jack" Schultz and his wife, Patricia, of Cedar Falls, IA and Byron Schultz and his wife, Darlene, all of Postville and a daughter, Rochelle and her husband, Noel Cook, of Postville, a daughter-in-law, Pat Schultz of Mason City, IA, a son-in-law, Stanton Lindquist of Jenison, MI, 24 grandchildren, 61 great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren.

Viola was a life time member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and an honorary member of the Women of the ELCA and had served as a Division Leader. She had sung in the church choir, taught Sunday School and had served as Superintendent of the Sunday School. She was also a member of the Monday Club and the Historical Society. Viola was an avid reader, played the piano and was a wonderful cook.
