Schultz Rites To Be Thursday
Frederick Conrad Schultz, the son of Carl Schultz and his wife, Anna Thoma Schultz, was born March 13, 1884 in Grand Meadow township, Clayton county, Iowa. He was baptized by the Rev. John Gass, pastor of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Postville on June 1, 1884, and confirmed in St. Paul's by the Rev. P. E. Bockelman on March 26, 1899. He passed away at the Postville Hospital on November 3, 1958 after a brief illness, at the age of 74 years, seven months and 21 days.
Fred Schultz attended the rural schools in Clayton county and helped his mother with the farming. His father had passed away on Fred's confirmation day, leaving a large family. While he was a young man, he was interested in all kinds of sports, winning several gold medals in high school field meets and foot races.
On November 25, 1909, he was united in marriage to Emma Louise Walther at Elkader, and they began farming immediately on his mother's farm south of Postville. They retired in 1945 and moved to town, where he worked for the Falb Motor Company for several years and later for the Postville Implement Company.
To this union were born two daughters, Gerene, Mrs. Robert Martindale of Postville, and Helen, Mrs. Thomas Beavers of Indianapolis, Indiana.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, Alvina, Melinda, Lucia, and Etelka, and four brothers, George, Erwin, Verni and Charles.
He is survived by his wife, two daughters, four grandchildren, Benny and Alan Martindale and Tommy and Ann Beavers; two sisters, Elsa and Libbie, of Postville; two brothers, Walter of Castalia and Luver of Postville, and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 6, at 2:00 at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Postville with the Rev. C. E. Witt in charge.
