JOSEPH M. SADLER
On Wednesday last at his home in this city, Joseph M. Sadler died at the somewhat advanced age of 78 years, 5 month and 28 days. He was born in Thelford [sic], Cambridgeshire, England, January 28, 1821 and died July 25, 1899. He was married to Miss Ann Pleasants, October 12, 1847. They came to America in 1863 and settled upon the English Bench. Afterwards they lived at Lansing for about seven years. Four years after they came to Waukon where they have resided ever since. During their life thirteen children have been born to them and out of that number three survive. They are Mrs. Frederick Wright, Riceville, Iowa, Mrs. Eliza Bartley, Waukon and Joseph, of Decorah. The faithful wife also still survives to mourn the death of her loved companion. More than fifty years ago Mr. Sadler joined the Primitive Methodist church of England and six years ago he united with the Presbyterian church of Mt. Hope. He was a devout and earnest Christian who was ready to be with his Lord and Master. All who knew him had kind words for him and in short he was a good man, a kind neighbor, a true friend and devoted husband and father. The funeral took place at the home of Mrs. Sadler on Friday, Rev. Vannice officiating. The interment took place in the Mt. Hope cemetery.

Note: Woodmansee and Janet Schoh's index show his burial to be at English Bench. [http://files.usgwarchives.net/ia/allamakee/cemeteries/engbench.txt]
